The Social and Environmental Simulation Research Group, led by professors Diana Francisca Adamatti and Graçaliz Pereira Dimuro, pursues activities directly linked to those of the Multiagent Systems group: it aims to develop agent-based models, methods, techniques and computational tools to develop social and environmental simulations. All of the group’s work is interdisciplinarity because it involves aspects of both the social and natural sciences and their application to computer systems (simulation).

The group’s activities are divided into two branches: a) Environmental Simulation, which focuses on simulations of environmental impact and management, and b) Social Simulation, which focuses on simulations of public policies and social trends that impact society.

The group consists of four faculty members at FURG (Antonio Carlos da Rocha Costa, Diana Francisca Adamatti, Marco Aurélio Gomes Barbosa and Graçaliz Pereira Dimuro), one postdoctoral fellow (Raquel de Miranda Barbosa) and a professor at the UFPel (Marilton Sanchotene de Aguiar). The group also includes four master's students from the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Modelagem Computacional (PPGMC/FURG) and 10 undergraduate students from FURG.

The research group is involved in several projects. The "Social Network of Social Simulation" project, supported by FAPERGS/CNPq, integrates various aspects of the group’s research.

Researchers in the group have delivered papers at events and have been published in national and international journals.
